From author Michael Crichton - environmentalism as a religion - food for thought
The speech is long and detailed, and a fascinating read. Crichton is a scientist and applies his logic to show that much of our environmental movement is based on almost religious faith rather than hard science. Its an interesting alternative viewpoint for those of us who lean left to consider. Reasoned debate is always welcome in my house.
Commonwealth Club Speech: "Today, one of the most powerful religions in the Western World is environmentalism. Environmentalism seems to be the religion of choice for urban atheists. Why do I say it's a religion? Well, just look at the beliefs. If you look carefully, you see that environmentalism is in fact a perfect 21st century remapping of traditional Judeo-Christian beliefs and myths."
